Dale Stewart received his degree in Optometry from The Ohio State University College of Optometry in 1978. A past Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, he completed his post-doctoral fellowship in Low Vision / Rehabilitation Optometry at the Illinois College of Optometry. Accepting an appointment there as Assistant Professor, he was Director of the Low Vision Rehabilitation Service and consultant to the Illinois School for the blind and various other regional blind rehabilitation services across the state.
Dr. Stewart left teaching to enter private practice in Durham, and joined Academy Eye Associates in 1989. Professional interests and experience include Low Vision Rehabilitation, and specialty contact lens work in keratoconus, and post-surgical corneas. With a strong interest in pre & postoperative refractive surgery management, he completed post-graduate training courses offered by the TLC Foundation, with clinical training at several local refractive surgical centers.
Dr. Stewart lives in Durham with his wife, Mary and son David. A member of many professional and civic organizations, Dr. Stewart was recognized with Durham’s Distinguished Service Award for his service to Durham County in the Department of Public Health. His personal interests include tennis, where he has been actively involved in the USTA league program, and fly-fishing with his son in the Smoky Mountains.
